Sweeteen Camp August 16 thru August 20, 2010 9:00 am to 1:00 pm - Ages 13 to 17 years old
Sweeteen camp is a fun and food filled five day, day camp. Each day has a different theme such as "Under the Tuscan Sun" for Italian or "It's Time to Wake Up" for Breakfast which are examples of last years program.
Teens learn how to; read a recipe, pick ingredients, use kitchen utensils including knives, whisks, measuring cups and spoons, use an oven, grill, fryer, sauce and sauté pans, prepare and chop vegetables and fruit, how to handle meat properly. Cleanliness and cooperative team work is also taught. Of course fun is a prime ingredient as well!
Sweeteen camps also will include an added feature this year! Instruction in additional techniques such as cake decorating, working with rolled fondant or advanced cooking or baking techniques will be given.
Sample Menu for "Dinner and a Movie": Tortilla soup (vegetarian), Turkey meat loaf sliders, traditional mac & cheese (made from scratch), fruit "salsa" (sweet, not spicy) with handmade chips, cinnamon chips and mini filled cupcakes. Lemonade and water for drinks.
Each day has items for vegetarians. No shell fish or peanuts are used. Let us know your child's special dietary needs when registering and we will let you know if they can be accommodated. we are experienced with working with children with allergies and special dietary needs.
Teens arrive at 9:00 am ready to make a full menu which they will share together when the work is done. Children should have breakfast before arriving as they will not be eating until lunch time. Children must be picked up by parents or guardians at 1:00 am, sharp. Before and after child care is not available.
Kids are instructed and supervised by Spun Sugar owner, Linda Moreno and Executive chef, Mitchell Hughes along with staff. The maximum number for children is 12 per week, so the child to adult ratio is 3 or 4 to 1
