The Willy Wonkas of cake decorating, the Spun Sugar Staff, fulfill the frosting-topped fantasies of bakers and confectioners at Spun Sugar, their candy land of a store. In addition to basics like cake pans, cookie cutters, and cream of tartar, the shop is stacked to the rafters with sugar charms and specialty flours, eco-friendly muffin cups and chocolate transfer sheets, gift bags, cookbooks, a rainbow of paste colors, frosting tips from 1 to 352, and enough sprinkles to repave University Avenue. Casual bakers and pros alike can practice new skills in seasonal classes on everything from building concept cakes and tempering chocolate to handling croissant dough and designing whimsical cupcakes. Every summer, youngsters measure and mix during weeklong Cooking Camps, while holiday gingerbread-house classes let parents and kids bond while building. The sweet-as-can-be staff is always ready to help, so if your soufflé sags or your frosting flops, they'll help you find a recipe for success.
