Sweetie / Sweeteen Camps FULL for 2008 4-30-08

We're pleased to announce that response to this year's Sweetie & SweeTeen Camps has been phenominal. All camps are now completely full with some having quite a few on the wait lists.

The Sweetie Camps filled up fast this year, so parents please do get your registrations in early next year to avoid disappointment.

To be wait listed, you can either call us during normal business hours (9am to 5:30pm, Mon - Fri) or submit your information through the registration page (select the session you wish to be wait listed for and be sure to include your phone number and email).

For those on the wait lists, we cannot predict if or when openings might arise, but we will call as soon as one does.

Candy Classes Registration Typo Fixed 3-26-08

Thanks to a customer's feedback, we've corrected the typo on the Candy Classes Registration that had incorrect daytime times for the weekday Candy Series Classes.


Sprinkles Galore! 4-2-08

We've been expanding our offering of sprinkles this year, adding new colors to the sanding sugars like royal blue, lime green, pastel turquoise & metallic gold and silver. To the jimmies, we've added lime green, light chocolate brown & dark chocolate brown. The quins have seen the largest exansion in offerings to meet your decorating needs; themes range from teddy bears & baby shower, to football & poker. Check out the new sprinkle selection here.


New Flours for Spring! 4-2-08

Also expanding is our offering of King Arthur flours. Bread flour and wholewheat flour join our existing offering of All-Purpose flour, cake flour and pastry flour.





Fixed Registration for Novelty Cake Classes & Demos 3-26-08

Apologies to all who have been wanting to register for the Novelty Cake classes & demos, due to a coding error, those options did not appear on the Registration Page menus. This omission has been fixed, and you may now register for those classes & demos.


Going Green with Your Cupcakes! 2-6-08

Many customers have been asking for unbleached paper baking cups for cupcakes and muffins, and we've got them in for everyone now. Imported from Sweden, the standard sized and mini baking cups are made from 100% unbleached paper. The cardboard packaging is made from 100% recycled paper, including at least 35% post-consumer materials.

We'll also be looking into carrying unbleached parchment paper and possibly unbleached coffee filters as well.


Winter/Spring 2008 Class Schedule ONLINE! 1-23-08

Apologies for the delays and many thanks for your patience; the 2007 Holiday Season was more hectic than anticipated and left us with backlogs and burnouts. We've also been gearing up for the Spring trilogy of Valentines, St Patricks and Easter.

Hopefully not too late for your New Year's Resoulutions for 2008, we've got a new slate of classes for you to try out! In addition to our perennial favorites, we've added some new and exciting classes like a Sweet & Savory Soufflés Class, more Novelty Fondant Cake Classes AND Demos including a 3D Easter Egg Cake, Purse & Hat Box Cake and Clown Cake.

Check them all out here. Hard copies will be available by Friday for pick-up at the registers in the store; and the web challenged will be getting them in the mail by next week.


Forget Kings & Queens, Try the Ace of Hearts! 1-23-08

It's coming, so make ready! Valentines will soon be upon us and we're prepared to help you reach your heart's desire with everything heart-shaped and passionately red (with some pinks and lavenders thrown in for good measure!).

From candy boxes to candy bags, twisties to baking cups, sugar decorations and sprinkles, we've got it all! Valentines chocolate molds, heart-shaped muffin pans in your choice of silicone, stainless steel and non-stick steel; cookie cutters and chocolate transfer sheets.

New Chocolate Transfer Sheets for 2008! 1-23-08

In addition to new Valentines designs, we're continuing to expand our offerings of chocolate transfer sheets with new multi-color designs inspired by the rich textiles of India.

Spun Sugar Gets a New Frock for 2008 1-23-08

Just in time for the Spring awakening, the Spun Sugar store front has had a quick color make-over! No longer drab and grey and part of the background that folks drive past every day, Spun Sugar is sporting our company colors and putting our best foot forward for the new year!

Keep an eye out for new splashes of color inside and out throughout 2008! This butterfly is shaking off its old drab cocoon and spreading its lavender and lime green wings!


All That Glitters... 1-23-08

For those in search of some bling for their baked goods or chocolates, Spun Sugar is proud to introduce true metallic sanding sugars in gold and silver, as well as a new series of airbrush colors from Lucks that come in shimmering metalics and lusturous pearls: gold and silver of course, pearl, pink and blue shimmer round out the offerings with red and green shimmers to follow.


Sneak Peaks of NEW Products 1-23-08

"Spectacular achievement is always preceded by spectacular preparation", so says Robert H. Schuller. So in that spirit, Spun Sugar is already preparing for St. Patricks, Easter and even Mardi Gras.

Along with the seasonal products we're getting in line for Spring, we're stocking up on other supplies to help all our customers achieve spectacular success in their creative culinary endeavors. From bread pans in various sizes to ceramic ramikins ready for new Soufflé classes, all the right ingredients for sweet success™ are at Spun Sugar.


Pumpkin Cake Class A Hit!

Our Novelty Pumpkin Cake Class was a success, novelty fondant cakes are all the rage these days it seems (thanks Food Network Challenges!). There's one more chance this year to learn a new spin on 'pumpkin carving' on November 8; make a stunning and seasonally appropreate dessert for your Fall dinner gather.

New Products: Cupcake Stands & Ball Pans

Spun Sugar has expanded its offerings of Wilton Products to include these lovely metal cupcake stands. They come in a 13 or 23 cupcake version for standard cupcakes and a 24 mini-cupcake version for smaller bites.

We also have a Ball Pan set for baking up those sports themed cakes for the athlete in your life. The pans also come in handy for other novelty cakes like the Pumpkin Cake (see above).


New Products: colored fondant, silicone baking cups & more!

Here at Spun Sugar, we're always looking for new products to fill our customers' needs; to that end, we're happy to announce that we're now offering stainless steel mixing bowls in 5qt, 8qt and 13qt sizes. We also now have silicone baking cups for standard and mini cupcakes in assorted colors.

For the cake decorators out there, we are now carrying Wilton's Decorator Preferred Square Separator plates in even sizes from 6" up to 18"; these plates work with the Wilton Grecian Pillars. In the weeks to come, we will be expanding our offerings of Wilton products, keep an eye out on our website for announcements.

Also for our decorating customers, we've been offering colored fondant from SatinIce in ivory, chocolate, pink, red, yellow, green, blue, purple and black; these colors are available in 5lb pails. The ivory can also be pre-ordered in 20lb pails.

New Chocolate/Candy Boxes!

Returning to our shelves are 2-piece white candy boxes in one pound and half pound sizes along with divider trays in gold and brown. We're also well stocked up with the candy pads that fit these boxes.

Two more additions to our plethora of candy cups: a mini-spring cup and a 2-tone swirl design in 3 color combinations; and a new mod patterned cello bag in one pound and half pound sizes.

New Chocolate Molds & 9" Cake Pans

A new batch of chocolate molds have arrived! New shapes like cigars, crayons, candy assortments, peanuts, baby bassinet boxes as well as old favorites like frogs, rats, spiders and peanutbutter cups & boms.

We've also finally managed to get in more 9" x 2" round cake pans!


Spun Sugar on View from the Bay!


Spun Sugar was featured on Channel 7's The View from the Bay on July 25 at 3pm PST! We did a Truffle Class with a group of kids for a "Kids in the Kitchen" segment.

Spun Sugar's packaging and presentation offerings have been growing this summer: new printed cello bags in 1/2lb, 1lb & 2lb gussetted sizes, new candy cups and cupcake papers, and the long awaited gold & silver rimmed 2-truffle clear boxes have arrived!

Big Things in Small Packages

Presentation is everything and Spun Sugar is here to to help! We've expanded our packaging offerings with the ever popular 2-truffle box in a rainbow of colors, from basic black to rustic kraft-paper, from trendy burnt orange to Tiffany blue!

We've also tracked down the ever elusive 2-truffle gold or silver rimmed clear boxes and expect to have them on our shelves in late June.


Sugar Deco Section debuts!

Spun Sugar is debuting a new section on our shop floor, pressed sugar decorations! Once kept behind the counter, these lovely sugar charms are now out for all to see. From flowers to bees, fast food to fiesta, zoo animals, farm animals and dinosaurs, sugar decorations are available in a myriad of themes to decorate your cupcakes, cookies and other baked goods.


New Products at Spun Sugar

We've been busy in the new year scouring the world for much requested items to keep our loyal customers happy.

Spun Sugar now stocks cake flour, pastry flour and baking soda so you can make us your one-stop-shopping destination when the baking bug bites. Quality flour products from King Arthur & Queen Guinevere along with good ole Arm & Hammer are now on our shelves.






We are offering Vanilla Sugar and Vanilla Bean Paste alongside our pure Madagascar vanilla extract and clear vanilla extracts so you can add just the right touch of flavor to your baked goods.







The truffle makers out there will rejoice when they see our most treasured find. The coveted two-truffle box is finally available! We are carrying them in gold, silver, dark chocolate brown and craft paper finishes.







Also much sought after are these silver rimmed clear boxes in a range of sizes and shapes. These are also available in gold rimmed versions.








Valrhona Returns to Spun Sugar Shelves

Spun Sugar is pleased to announce that we are once again carrying Valrhona chocolate on our Wall-o-Chocolate! This premium French chocolate is synonymous with rich decadent chocoholism.

We are currently offering Valrhona's Manjari (64%), Gunaja (70%) and Ivoire (35%) varieties in feves (little oval discs) in 1lb and 6.6lb quantities.

If there is interest in other varieties, let us know and we'll look into expanding our offerings.


10% discount for card-carrying student chefs

Spun Sugar is offering a 10% discounts on ingredients and supplies to anyone enrolled in classes at the California Culinary Academy as well as the Culinary Institute of America. Students will need to produce their student ID at the register to get the discount. Discount is not valid for class fees.


Spun Sugar gets glowing review in Edible East Bay!

Local foodie magazine, Edible East Bay, features Spun Sugar in the Spring 2006 issue under its Notable Edibles column. Writer, Kathy Couturié, writes, "Possibly one of the most memorable edible stops on any of my journeys was our visit to Spun Sugar... Owners Linda Moreno and Bettye Travis have created a truly unique asset for this area."
